Nordcloud positioned in Gartner´s Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Infrastructure Professional and Managed Services, Worldwide

This Is The Third Year In A Row Nordcloud Has Been Included In This Report

2019 Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Infrastructure, Professional and Managed Services, Worldwide report evaluated 19 different vendors.

Nordcloud achieves highest placement for its ability to execute in the Niche Players’ quadrant.

According to Gartner, “this Magic Quadrant is focused on MSPs that have deep technical expertise with hyperscale providers, effective cloud management platforms (CMPs), and managed services that leverage automation, where possible. The MSPs must also possess the ability to deliver cloud-optimized solutions, regardless of whether a customer is deploying new cloud-native applications or migrating legacy workloads from an existing traditional data center. This depth of expertise and technical integration, including exploiting the API-enabled automation of hyperscale providers, distinguishes these MSPs from data center outsourcing (DCO) providers. Traditional DCO providers usually offer solutions that largely treat hyperscale providers as if they were simply virtualization platforms.”

According to Gartner, “by 2024, more than 50% of cloud service deals will include both application development services and cloud infrastructure professional and managed services, up from 10% in 2019.”

“We believe Nordcloud has landed in the Magic Quadrant for a third year in a row because we combine cloud infrastructure and cloud application development in order to provide full-service cloud transformations to our customers. This is expected to be a key feature in the majority of deals within the next five years” says Jan Kritz, CEO, Nordcloud.

“Our hyperscale focused MSP strategy and European market focus ensures our customers get local access to the capabilities to drive success on their digital transformation while reducing IT costs.”

Nordcloud Recognized Also By Financial Times

The Magic Quadrant recognition is the latest acknowledgement Nordcloud has received. Previously, The Financial Times positioned Nordcloud in their 1000 fastest growing companies in Europe (FT1000) listing in March 2019.

Nordcloud is a rare company worldwide to have audited partner certifications with all three leading hyperscalers: Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Nordcloud operates in 10 European countries and employs over 420 cloud experts.

Nordcloud accelerates its growth with new €20 million funding

      CATEGORIES

      Blog

This new funding will be used to continue Nordcloud´s profitable growth, fuel international expansion and develop its offering portfolio to address evolving customer demand. Over the next 18 months, Nordcloud plans to recruit more than 500 additional team members across its key European markets. The company will also expand its R&D and invest in capabilities that help its customer get the most business benefit out of the public cloud.

“Nordcloud is a company that is in the heart of Finnvera’s strategy. Finnvera’s task is, by means of financing, to promote the internationalisation and exports of enterprises. The goal is that the companies achieve something that wouldn’t be achievable without Finnvera’s financing. Nordcloud is a great example of such a company”, says Finnvera’s finance manager Kalle Åstrom.

Finnvera, Business Finland and the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs have been supporting Nordcloud’s international growth through Team Finland since its founding.

Financing from OP Corporate Bank plc is supported by the InnovFin SME Guarantee Facility, with the financial backing of the European Union under Horizon 2020 Financial Instruments and the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) set up under the Investment Plan for Europe. The purpose of EFSI is to help support financing and implementing productive investments in the European Union and to ensure increased access to financing

“Nordcloud has been growth focused from the start. Over the past 3 years our organic growth rate has been over 500%. Together with our partners, people and customers, we’ve realised our vision of bringing about truly agile and efficient corporate IT through hyperscale cloud and software. This latest funding gives us additional tools to do more for our customers, expand our service portfolio and accelerate our European expansion” says Nordcloud’s CEO, Jan Kritz.

Nordcloud enables enterprises to transform their IT infrastructure and accelerate their digital transformation efforts using the public cloud. Nordcloud’s deep expertise in public cloud, ability to transition from legacy IT and agile way of working reduce significantly the time to value and costs for customer’s using public cloud.

The company is a leading partner for the major public cloud platforms: AWS, Microsoft and Google. Already among the fastest growing companies in Finland, Nordcloud employs more than 400 cloud experts across 10 European markets and a revenue run-rate of over €60 million.

Public Cloud as key enabler for innovation

            CATEGORIES

            Blog

            • Already today, 19 percent of German companies are in active public cloud operation, 55 percent are preparing their deployment at full speed
            • Over two-thirds of companies plan to spend at least 10 to 20 percent of their annual infrastructure budget on public cloud issues by 2020
            • The public cloud market leaders AWS and Microsoft Azure share the majority of the current public cloud budget in German companies with 60 percent
            • 79 percent of companies make use of the services and know-how of external partners both in consulting and in operations

Nordcloud and the external IT research company Crisp Research have conducted a recent study to examine the strategies and mindset for public clouds in the German midmarket and to analyze the demands on managed public cloud providers. German companies are increasingly focusing on the public cloud and are dependent on the external expertise of IT service and consulting providers.

The study, which surveyed a total of 160 IT, digitization and business decision-makers, shows that the majority of German companies are already involved with the public cloud today. 19 percent are already actively using the public cloud in the form of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), while a full 55 percent are in the implementation or active preparation phase. Half of the companies prefer a phased relocation of their application and infrastructure portfolios, 33 percent design the cloud migration “all in”, i.e. the entire application portfolio is planned as a large-scale transformation project.

Trend towards dual and multi vendor strategy

Since the functional scope, complexity and speed of innovation of public cloud platforms are now very high, more than half (53 percent) of the companies surveyed specifically rely on two strategic cloud providers. In addition, a total of 18 percent stated that they used more than two providers. As reasons for a dual or multi vendor strategy, 34 percent cited the minimization of the risk of a vendor lock-in as the reason, 41 percent also estimated the possibility of global coverage of the data center locations as enablers for international rollouts of their new digital services.

Investment in the public cloud on the rise

In addition, more than two-thirds (72 percent) of respondents said they would invest at least 10 to 20 percent of their infrastructure budget for IaaS and PaaS in the public cloud by 2020. Around a quarter (26 percent) even plan to shift between 20 and 50 percent of their infrastructure budget to public clouds. On average, 27 percent of the cloud budget is allocated to pure cloud operation. At 60 percent, the public cloud majors AWS and Microsoft Azure share the majority of the current public cloud budget for IaaS and PaaS in companies, although providers such as Google Cloud Platform, IBM and Alibaba also play an important role in German-speaking countries.

Managed Public Cloud Providers in Demand as Experts

Since both the transformation into the public cloud and the operation of these systems are in part highly complex, the vast majority of the companies surveyed (79 percent) rely on the support of external service providers. 52 percent said they worked with one, 19 percent with two managed public cloud providers. The external expertise is used in almost all areas, from the cloud strategy (64 percent), monitoring and management (54 percent) and the development of the API strategy (51 percent) to the development of DevOps operating concepts (51 percent). Managed Public Cloud Providers thus have a high strategic relevance.

“In order to remain competitive in times of digital transformation, companies should increasingly rely on cloud computing technologies,” comments Uli Baur, Country Manager Nordcloud DACH. “Our study results make it clear that more and more German companies are aware of this necessary step and are therefore already preparing the implementation and planning to use more resources for cloud operation and all associated processes in the future. Through partners like Nordcloud, the numerous changes can also be mastered by companies that themselves lack the necessary specialist staff and know-how.”

Predicting IT incidents in Financial Services

                CATEGORIES

                Blog

As we’ve mentioned in previous blogs, one of the UK’s biggest banks, TSB, learnt the hard way earlier this year when it came to protecting their highly valuable systems from IT failures. The BBC coined the term ‘technology meltdown’ after 2 million customers of the bank lost access to their online banking services. Since then, a second ‘meltdown’ has occurred, and TSB’s CEO has stepped down.

Banks have been slow to move legacy systems to cloud

Banks and FSIs around the world have been slow on the uptake to modernise infrastructure and move legacy systems to the cloud. The complexities that surround moving large amounts of secure data, constantly changing market dynamics, and a need to shift company culture (such as moving to a more agile way of working) is tantamount to redesigning an entire industry. The problem is that this failure to move forward and be relevant has proved costly, and regulatory services have made the FSIs pay out large and easily preventable fines.

Anuj Saxena, Head of FSI at Nordcloud, wrote in his blog that financial institutions often plan for highly available service operations and don’t consider potential failures. But one of the ways these businesses can improve their operational resilience is implementing automated tools and processes in order to recover from these potential incidents. Engaging with a Managed Cloud Services provider is the start of the solution.

Planning for failure by implementing a well-oiled machine

At the risk of sounding negative, planning for failure is the key to keeping systems up and running. Employing a DevOps function like the team at Nordcloud who have the experience in automating end to end deployments, operations & recovering cloud infrastructure, allows for flexibility and innovation, and creating runbooks and playbooks allows the teams to compare and match certain standards.

FSIs need to become operationally resilient so they are not held back when an incident happens. Having a ‘well-oiled machine’ that will be able to respond to incidents quickly and agily will improve this resilience.

But what’s the point of having this ‘holy-grail’ of automation unless you have someone who knows how to manage it?

                A dedicated Managed Services Provider

Cloud experts within Nordcloud have experience in knowing what to monitor & what thresholds to configure out of the box, ensuring that problems are identified earlier and solved quicker.

Our team uses an advanced adaptive (outlier detection), automated full-stack monitoring and instrumentation platform to enable a 360-degree view of a business’s infrastructure, ensuring that potential issues are identified and resolved before they become an issue. This automated response means reactions are faster, and human error is eliminated. In the same sense, developing a comprehensive runbook promotes standardised operating procedures which can be used repeatedly, allowing you to move to market faster.

Businesses should also organise regular ‘Game Days’ where failure is simulated, and runbooks and playbooks are tested to ensure that in the event of failure, response and resolution is well rehearsed and therefore fast. Nordcloud’s team of experts can manage this and other day to day operations, helping our customers meet the regulatory compliance they require.

IT time is valuable and generally scarce and your department should be focussed on projects that improve your company’s bottom line. FSIs who engage with Managed Cloud Service providers will be able to save sizeable amounts of money on potentially avoidable fines, and in the meantime make sure their customers’ online experience is not affected.

Vendor Universe 2018 in the area of Managed Public Cloud Provider

Nordcloud, one of Europe’s leading providers of public cloud infrastructure solutions, has been named a leading ‘accelerator’ by independent IT research and consulting firm Crisp Research in the current vendor comparison ‘Vendor Universe 2018’ in the area of ‘Managed Public Cloud Provider’.

In this comprehensive study, Crisp Research examined five cloud markets relevant for Germany and the service providers active in them in order to provide decision-makers in companies with guidelines and to analyse the largest fields of action within the industry. Together with 16 other providers, Nordcloud was tested in the market category ‘Managed Public Cloud Provider‘. The evaluation criteria were divided into the two main categories: ‘Service / Product Value Creation’ and ‘Vendor Performance’.

The result confirms Nordcloud’s pioneering position within the cloud computing industry

In the category ‘Service / Product Value Creation’ the Finnish company achieved the highest value of 85 percent (average value: 62 percent), for ‘Vendor Performance’ it received a total of 81 percent (average value: 58 percent). Nordcloud was particularly convincing in the areas of ‘Service Portfolio’, ‘Integration’ and ‘Customer Experience’.

Google brings the Public Cloud to Finland

The first public cloud region in Finland is finally open!

Google has finished its many years long project of turning Hamina paper mill into a modern data centre in June 2018 and connected it to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), one of the largest public cloud services in the world.

The new Finland region, europe-north1, is the 16th region in the cloud network, but the first in the Nordics and fifth in Europe accompanying the Netherlands, Belgium, London, and Frankfurt regions.

A new hub bringing concrete benefits

Opening the Hamina data centre is not only a big nod to Finnish application know-how, but it also offers a lot of concrete benefits.

The most obvious one being is the physical location of the data and computing power. Google regions are independent and won’t automatically share or replicate with other regions, meaning data will stay in Finland. The location naturally improves the latency of the whole area. Google estimates that the new region can improve latencies by up to 65% for end-users in the Nordics and by up to 88% in Eastern Europe.

The Hamina region is split into three zones and distributing the data across multiple zones will protect against service disruptions but will still keep all data within Finland.

                    Added value from Multi-Regional services

While offering strong local presence, Google also offers a portfolio of Multi-Regional services. The biggest added value of the public cloud lies in the complete toolbox enabling usage of, for example, ready-made Big Data, Compute, Networking, Security and Storage applications to compliment customers own environments.

Nordcloud is excited about all the possibilities Google Hamina brings and are eager to support companies and organisations in their cloud journey. You can read more about our cloud services here.
