Project Summary.
The client.
Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI) is a leading corporate and investment bank in Central and Eastern Europe. The group comprises numerous financial service providers, for instance in the fields of leasing, asset management, as well as M&A.

Project Background.
To meet the needs of a rapidly changing customer environment and the growth of competition, RBI needed to change the way it worked. This included embracing new technologies to improve the speed and agility to bring new products and services to market, modernising IT architecture, and optimising new cost models.
Challenges.
- To meet the needs of a rapidly changing customer environment and the growth of competition, RBI needed to change the way it worked. This included embracing new technologies to improve the speed and agility to bring new products and services to market, modernizing IT architecture, and optimizing new cost models.
- In adopting a Cloud first approach, RBI and its 14 network banks wanted to create a harmonized data storage and analytics infrastructure, modernizing their application portfolio, introducing agile development into production, and optimizing costs for the existing IT landscape.
Nordcloud was an essential partner in building RBI’s Data Lake platform, and with all their experience this journey would not have been possible.”
Solution.

Cloud Enablement Workshop
Nordcloud’s engagement was advisory led, refining the customers cloud first strategy into a vision that could be deployed from a central location to serve the global network. This included use cases and services to meet the needs of the ever-changing customer environment.
In addition, Nordcloud recognized the opportunity to support key business initiatives related to digital services and data estate modernization, while complying with FSI regulations.

A solid foundation
Central to the solution was the deployment of a Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE), acting as a core foundation layer.
The CCoE provided technical cloud capabilities, capacity and governance to the entire organization, thus maintaining the cloud policies defined by RBI and ensuring effective cost management across the business.

Built for purpose
Built on top of the CCoE services was a suite of business enablers, such as data lakes and compute environments.
This included helping the Data Lake team to refactor their infrastructure, using an Infrastructure as a Code approach. As a result the operational Data Lake can now be deployed with a single click.
A best practice approach for DevOps was implemented with fully automated CI/CD pipelines. A full development process was also introduced to make the internal RBI teams more agile.
Results.
Guiding the RBI transformation teams, Nordcloud’s advisory and technical teams successfully created a standardised approach for internal and external customer engagement, creating a scalable model for RBI to serve increasing demand, from the local global business units.
The capture of new services and delivery times were dramatically reduced within the new cloud framework. Value delivery became more efficient and repeatable across business units, utilising the benefits of automated and customisable cloud foundations to develop new use cases.
A key benefit of the engagement was the enabling of a cultural change towards full agile project lifecycle, bringing motivation, spirit and real expertise to the field. This ensured fast experimentation and piloting towards production, supported with compliant cloud foundation.
