Yes, I’m writing to you about a tech event. But stick with me here…Because this one is different from the other invites popping into your inbox or filling your LinkedIn feed.
I have a confession to make…
…I don’t like conference-type events. I prefer meet-ups with knowledge sharing and chat over nice food and drinks. And I was sceptical that it could be replicated in a hybrid event.
But my scepticism is gone.
Because, talking to my colleagues organising the Cloud Revolution Summit, it’s going to be both interesting and worthwhile. I’ve had an insider look at the speakers, agenda and approach, and based on all that, I have 5 reasons why you should secure a spot for 18 September 2024 right now.
1. It will actually be interesting (and hold your attention)
Have you ever dozed off at a conference? Fiddled with your phone in the middle of a talk? Or clicked on to a news site to entertain yourself during a webinar? (I’m guilty.)
This is the opposite of that.
It is deliberately NOT death by PowerPoint. It’s NOT people reading off slides. (Which is often the default for virtual events because of having to show something on screen.)
The Cloud Revolution Summit is full of fireside chats and panel discussions. And they’ve invested in high-quality videography, so it will feel more like watching a documentary than a static feed.
(I’ve put this as the #1 reason to attend because these event experience elements make a huge difference on the day.)
2. You get real-world insight and trench stories (not sales pitches)
When you register for Cloud Revolution Summit, you’re asked to submit cloud/digital transformation challenges and topics you want to learn more about.
The agenda is being set by you and the other attendees (not by people trying to sell stuff). This means the day will be full of:
- Crowd-sourced challenges that expert panellists solve in real time
- Live collaboration with the best people in cloud today
- Unscripted, interactive discussions about what’s worked (and what hasn’t)
42% of registrants so far named GenAI as a priority cloud pain, and 32% said IT operations. So both of those will be covered in the discussions.
3. A Formula 1 champion will talk about amazing uses of data
Racing is cool; the data around racing is insanely cool.
I love hearing about tech experiences that are unique (and therefore fascinating) but also have applicability to more ‘normal’ enterprises.
Formula 1 hits that sweet spot, and it’s the Cloud Revolution Summit chat I’m most looking forward to.
It will bring (award-winning) driver and tech perspectives on data together, featuring:
- Mika Häkkinen – the double world champion, winner of 20 Grand Prix and Michael Schumacher’s closet rival
- Gary Foote – CIO of the Haas F1 team, responsible for all tech systems and services globally
They’ll talk about how data is the secret weapon in F1 and how drivers, engineers and HQ staff leverage data to optimise performance, diagnose issues and make split-second decisions.
4. A rare opportunity to hear about how to set up your IT team, with cloud in mind
It's rare you get the chance to hear about this kind of thing at cloud and tech events. But this is it - you'll hear real-life experiences from those who have learned how to really transform their IT teams to get the most out of the cloud, and deal with the curveballs the wider business give you.
There are some interesting examples of how they’ve boosted IT capacity, reduced technical debt to improve agility and cut costs, and increased automation. And I know those experiences will help inform my work with other organisations at a more mature stage of their digital transformation journey.
5. You get a multi-cloud perspective
In my experience, this is rare for tech events. They’re usually organised by Microsoft, AWS or Google – and yes, there are interesting chats about use cases and innovations. But the reality is multi-cloud. In fact, one lesson from the CrowdStrike outage is that resilience requires a more diverse vendor landscape.
The Cloud Revolution Summit has the major hyperscalers and IBM in one place. This means we can have insightful conversations about multi-cloud experiences and trends in critical areas like GenAI and IT operations.
As close to the perfect cloud event as you can get (so don’t risk FOMO)
My colleagues planning the Cloud Revolution Summit started by sitting down with me as Nordcloud’s CEO, our CTO and team leaders to discuss their perfect cloud event day.
And because they’re working from that perspective (and to impress people of that calibre), I know it will be one I’d regret not attending. So don’t risk the FOMO. Secure your spot now for 18 September. After all, isn’t it nice to have something to look forward to, for after the summer holidays?
